Emphasising the urgency of environmental action
• Not only did + sujeto + verbo... (No solo...)
• Hardly had + sujeto + verbo... (Apenas...)
¿Qué vas a lograr?

Recuerda: tras not only did o hardly had, el verbo va antes del sujeto.
• *Not only did the ice melt, but the sea rose too.*
• *Hardly had we arrived when the storm hit.*
Errores comunes
• No digas *Not only the ice melted*: la inversion exige *did* + verbo base.
• *Hardly* suele ir con *when*, no con *than*.
Enfoque gramaticalInversion For Emphasis: Not Only Did, Hardly Had
GRAMÁTICA
Inversión para enfatizar: not only did, hardly had
Inversion for emphasis: not only did, hardly hadNot only + did + subject + base verb + but also + clause | Hardly + had + subject + past participle + when + clause
Not only + did + sujeto + verbo base + but also + ...
Ejemplo: *Not only did the pollution destroy the habitat, but it also put many species at risk.*
Hardly + had + sujeto + participio pasado + when + ...
Ejemplo: *Hardly had the scientists published their report when the government promised to take action.*

Ejemplo
Not only did
did
did + sujeto + verbo base
Not only did the flood destroy homes...
Hardly had
had
had + sujeto + participio pasado
Hardly had we started the meeting when...
Not only did the pollution destroy the habitat, but it also put many species at risk.
Hardly had the scientists published their report when the government promised to take action.
En but also, el orden es normal: *but it also put many species at risk* (no *but also did it put*).
Cuidado: hardly had siempre va seguido de when, no de than. Decimos *Hardly had we started when...*, no *Hardly had we started than...*.
