CONTEXTO

• Te permite decir *"the data collected in the study"* en lugar de *"the data that was collected in the study"*. ¿Qué vas a lograr? • Describir investigadores y hallazgos usando frases como *"the researcher conducting the experiment"*. ¡Empecemos!

EXPLICACIÓN

Teoría y puntos clave

La clave: el participio presente La forma reducida de la relativa ("the man sitting next to me") es muy común en inglés hablado y escrito. Para formarla, quita el pronombre relativo y el verbo "to be", y deja el verbo en -ing. Ejemplo: "the researcher who is conducting the study" → "the researcher conducting the study". Errores comunes • No uses "is" después del sustantivo: ✗ "the man is sitting next to me" (esto es una oración completa, no una frase). ✓ "the man sitting next to me". • No confundas con el presente continuo: "the scientist observing the sample" = "el científico que observa la muestra" (no "el científico está observando"). • Úsala para describir: "the laboratory conducting research", "the observation consisting of several steps". Es perfecta para resumir artículos científicos.

GRAMÁTICA

Cláusulas relativas reducidas: the man sitting next to me

Reduced relative clauses: the man sitting next to meNoun + (who/which/that + to be) + present participle (-ing) / past participle (-ed/-en)

Se forman eliminando el pronombre relativo (*who*, *which*, *that*) y el verbo *to be* de una cláusula relativa completa. Ejemplo: • Completa: *The researcher who is sitting next to me is from the laboratory.* • Reducida: *The researcher sitting next to me is from the laboratory.* ¿Cómo se forma? 1. - *The data showing a change is in the report.* 2. - *The sample collected yesterday was small.* Regla clave: Solo puedes reducir la cláusula si contiene el verbo *to be*.

Activa (presente)The researcher who is sitting...The researcher sitting...
Pasiva (pasado)The sample that was collected...The sample collected...
Activa (pasado)The observation which was recorded...The observation recorded...

The researcher conducting the experiment is from the laboratory.

The observation recorded during the study shows a clear change in the data.

*The man who sits next to me* NO se puede reducir a *The man sits next to me*.

Leer introducción en inglés

Describing research findings with reduced relative clauses In this lesson, you will learn to describe research findings in a more compact and natural way using reduced relative clauses. Why is this useful? • It lets you say *"the data collected in the study"* instead of *"the data that was collected in the study"*. • It is common in academic articles, presentations, and professional conversations. • It will help you summarise research clearly and precisely. What will you achieve? • Describe researchers and findings using phrases like *"the researcher conducting the experiment"*. • Summarise the key elements of a research article. • Practise with science vocabulary: *laboratory*, *observation*, *sample*, *experiment*. We will work with a real scenario: a research team publishing an article about a new study. Let's begin!

Al terminar podrás✓ Can describe research findings and researchers using reduced relative clauses.✓ Can summarise the key elements of a research article.
