CONTEXTO

Vamos a usar there is y there are para decir que algo existe en un lugar. Por ejemplo: *There is a book on the table.* En esta lección aprenderás: • Las preposiciones de lugar más comunes. • A describir dónde están los objetos. • A usar *there is* y *there are* con preposiciones. ¡Vamos a empezar!

EXPLICACIÓN

Teoría y puntos clave

Preposiciones de lugar: tu mapa mental Piensa en las preposiciones como un mapa: on es contacto con una superficie (the book is on the table), in es dentro (the pen is in the bag), under es debajo (the cat is under the chair). Para next to y near, imagina distancia: next to es "al lado" (tocando casi), near es "cerca" (un poco más lejos). Between siempre necesita DOS objetos: the park is between the school and the house. Errores comunes • No digas "the book is in the table" para "sobre la mesa". Usa on: the book is on the table. • At vs. in: at es para un punto exacto (at the door), in es para espacios con límites (in the park). • There is vs. there are: there is + singular (there is a park near my house), there are + plural (there are two tables in the room). ¡No los confundas!

Enfoque gramaticalThere Is/There Are: Affirmative With Prepositions
GRAMÁTICA

There is / There are con preposiciones de lugar

There is / There are with Prepositions of PlaceThere is/are + (a/an) + noun + preposition + place

Usamos there is (singular) y there are (plural) para decir que algo existe o está en un lugar. Después de estas expresiones, añadimos una preposición de lugar para indicar dónde está la cosa. • There is + un objeto + preposición + lugar. • There are + varios objetos + preposición + lugar. Ejemplos: • There is a cat under the table. (Hay un gato debajo de la mesa.) • There are two books on the table. (Hay dos libros sobre la mesa.) La preposición va después del objeto, no antes. Esta estructura es muy común para describir una escena o un lugar.

FormaUsoEjemplo
There isUn objeto (singular)There is a cat under the table.
There areVarios objetos (plural)There are two books on the table.

There is a cat under the table.Hay un gato debajo de la mesa.

There are two books on the table.Hay dos libros sobre la mesa.

Recuerda: *there is* para un objeto y *there are* para varios. Mira el sustantivo que sigue para elegir la forma correcta.
Error común: No digas *there is two books*. Como *books* es plural, necesitas *there are*.
