EXPLICACIÓN

Teoría y puntos clave

Where is...? (¿Dónde está...?) Para preguntar por un lugar, usa Where is + el lugar: *Where is the bank?* (¿Dónde está el banco?). Recuerda que en inglés casi siempre usamos the antes del lugar: *the park*, *the hospital*, *the supermarket*. ¡No lo olvides! Es un error muy común entre hispanohablantes. Trucos para recordar • Home es especial: no lleva *the* (*I am home*, no *I am the home*). • House es el edificio; home es el lugar donde vives. • Street y road son casi lo mismo, pero *road* es más largo y va entre ciudades. • Piensa en tu ciudad: *the bank*, *the park*, *the shop*. ¡Practica preguntando dónde están tus lugares favoritos!

GRAMÁTICA

Preguntas con Where y el verbo to be

Questions with Where and the verb to beWhere + is + [place]? → It + is + [location].

Para preguntar dónde está un lugar, usamos Where is...? (¿Dónde está...?). La estructura es simple: Where + is + lugar. Observa que el verbo is va antes del lugar, como en español. • Where is the bank? → ¿Dónde está el banco? • Where is the hospital? → ¿Dónde está el hospital? Para responder, usamos It is (está) + la ubicación: • It is on this street. → Está en esta calle. • It is near the park. → Está cerca del parque. En conversación, solemos usar la forma corta: Where's the supermarket? y It's in the city.

PreguntaRespuesta cortaRespuesta larga
Where is the bank? It's on this street. It is on this street.

Where is the supermarket? It's in the city.It is in the city.

Where is the bank?¿Dónde está el banco?

The supermarket is on this street.El supermercado está en esta calle.

Where's es la forma corta de Where is. Es muy común en conversación: *Where's the hotel?*
No digas *Where is the bank?* con el verbo al final. En inglés, el verbo is va después de Where, no al final.
